This tumblr has moved… to Kuala Lumpur

Here’s what’s up: I got myself a job in KL. Been here a couple of months now, settling in okay.

I don’t have internetting in my apartment but I do at work. So I can’t spend as much time on Tumblr as before and I sure can’t do sit-down-write-a-text-post nights at home. But I’ll muster one up right now in a text file stored in my flash drive and post it when get to the office in the morning.

    Leaving seemed hard at first.

I don’t deny that I grew up in the best hometown in the world, laidback Kota Kinabalu, with tropical islands to the west and majestic Mt. Kinabalu to the east (the orangutans are a bit further east). That place is outdoor activity heaven.

I have my friends and extended family close by.

I’m in my church’s annual Xmas choir and I love that gig, and I was expected to lead the youth carolling team like I did last year, a gig I also love.

The people of my hometown sing like angels with earthly origins in a reality talent show struck by a meteorite made of nightingales.

The startup company I left was organising the first ever pan-Bornean social media conference (which had participants from all over Southeast Asia) and I didn’t want to miss a groundbreaking event that had my fingerprints all over it.

Not to mention I’ve also been increasingly politically conscious for my home state, with proportional increases in love and pride for it.

    Yes, hard.

    Fortunately it wasn’t that hard.

I always knew I’d have to move to the big city one day. I needed to grow. There were many moments of joy, tranquility, love or whatnot that made me think, “I could probably be happy just staying here forever”… but a little voice in my head would always nag, “Seriously?”

I love travel. I crave new experiences. And look forward to new friendships. I’m actually shy but the value of getting to know more people is never lost on me.

KL is a long-familiar place and there are two things in KL that I miss the most: the numerous giant bookstores, and the amazing indie music scene. It’s so good to be back.

And hey, I joined a carolling group here too. And started playing badminton every Sunday again. I still get to enjoy some old routines, no big deal.

And my new job? God I love my job. I am reunited with an old passion, in a way. I need another text post for this.

And I’ll keep posting. I’ll still be your lionelster, your moist robot from Borneo.

In short, I feel as lucky to be where I am as much as I feel lucky to be where I am from.

Remember: you can take the boy out of Borneo but you can’t take Borneo out of the boy.

Also time and tide waits for no Bornean- okay that’s enough.

Hello. I'm Lionel. From Borneo.
In KL.

I invented the Twitter/Favrd bookmarklet, to rave reviews. Favstar's and Twitya's bookmarklets (and bastard kids I may not know about) inherited its genes. I did not invent Sexy Sex Thursdays, but I might have caused it.

A robot what?

My askhole. (Suggestions)
